The Translator’s Week is an annual, scientific event organized since the 1980s by students and faculty members of the BA in Translation at São Paulo State University - UNESP, campus of São José do Rio Preto (Brazil).

The International Translation Symposium (SIT) occurs together with the Translator’s Week convening researchers and professionals from the Translation field in many countries, and bringing foreign experiences to the spotlight.

The 43rd Translator’s Week and the 4th SIT will take place from September 23rd to 27th, 2024. This year’s event alludes to the Translator’s Week tradition of providing space for theoretical, critical, and practical discussions concerning Translation, bringing along the innovative SIT’s purpose of enriching the exchange of foreign languages and cultures.

With this year’s theme being “Language and culture: (de)humanized translation in the era of AI”, the events seek to reflect on how Artificial Intelligence impacts translation, and what role culture has in this modern paradigm. They also reach for a better understanding of the real dimensions and implications of these technologies in several areas that involve the practice of translation, with the objective to show future translators, professionals and those who are already familiar with the job market that they will need to deal with AI-related issues in their day-to-day life.
